Medical hair loss is due to a diagnosed condition such as alopecia, or medical treatments such as chemo (chemotherapy), or in some cases hair loss caused by medications. You may qualify for reimbursement for all or part of the cost of your wig as a cranial prosthesis.

A cranial prosthesis is a wig or hairpiece specifically designed for patients who have lost their hair as a result of medical conditions or treatments, such as alopecia, trichotillomania, chemotherapy, or any other clinical disease or treatment resulting in hair loss.

1. Contact your health care provider and ask if cranial prosthesis is covered and if so, how much they will cover.
   
2. If your provider covers cranial prosthesis, contact your doctor to obtain a written prescription for the prosthesis.
