How often should I wash my human hair wig?
Many factors affect how often you need to wash your wig including how often you wear it, how long you wear it, lifestyle, environment, and styling products used. Most manufacturers recommend washing every 7-12 wears if wearing daily. If you only wear part-time, you can go longer between washes. Feeling greasy, sticky, or smelly are good indications that it is time to wash your wig.
What shampoo & conditioning products are safe to use on my human hair wig?
Use only sulfate-free, color-safe, salon quality products to nourish and protect the hair.
How do I wash & condition my human hair wig?
- Start by detangling your wig or topper with a wide tooth comb.
- Gently shampoo in your sink or a basin (see video below).
- Rinse thoroughly until water runs clear.
- Apply conditioner to the lower half of the hair, being sure to avoid the scalp & root areas as this can loosen the knots and cause shedding. We recommend using a deep conditioner or conditioning mask every other wash,
- Rinse thoroughly.
- Gently blot dry in a towel then put wig on a drying stand and let air dry, It’s often easier to set your part and direct the hair away from the face at this time and let dry in place. Blow drying is NOT recommended it can be very damaging to the hair. Air drying can take up to 24 hours so plan accordingly and have a backup wig, topper, hat, etc. available to wear on wash days if needed.
