How often should I wash my synthetic wig?
Many factors affect how often you need to wash your wig including how often you wear it, how long you wear it, lifestyle, environment, and styling products used. Most manufacturers recommend washing every 7-12 wears if wearing daily. If you only wear part-time, you can go longer between washes. Feeling greasy, sticky, or smelly are good indications that it is time to wash your wig.
What shampoo & conditioning products are safe to use on my synthetic wig or topper?
Use products that are specifically made for synthetic wigs.
How do I wash & condition my synthetic wig?
- Start by gently detangling your wig or topper with a wide tooth comb working from the bottom up – don’t forget the nape area.
- Gently shampoo in a sink or a basin using cool or lukewarm water warm water (see video below).
- Rinse thoroughly until water runs clear.
- If using a rinse-out conditioner, apply conditioner to your hand and work through the hair avoiding the scalp/root area then rinse out.
- Gently blot dry in a towel then put wig on a drying stand and let air dry,
- Use your fingers style into place. Do not brush or comb synthetic hair when it is wet – the hair can stretch or break.
- Let wig dry on an open drying stand.
- Once dry you can use a leave-in conditioner as needed.
